IoT and building automation company KMC Controls is partnering once again with technology leader Dell at Realcomms IBCon event on June 1315, 2017. Taking place at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego, CA, KMC is sponsoring two education tracks, having their CEO Richard Newberry take place in a breakout panel, displaying their IoT and building controls solutions in their own booth, and partnering in Dells booth to tell their shared IoT stories and demo the KMC Commander IoT platform.
At the gathering, KMC Controls is sponsoring an education track titled Cybersecurity. With the revolutionary nature of IoT, Cybersecurity cannot be swept under the rug or fingers simply crossed. It must be at the forefront of your strategy, or else you and your customers and your end users will all be vulnerable, said Richard Newberry, CEO of KMC Controls. In addition to the security track, KMC is also sponsoring the Top of Mind track, focused on two key areas: privacy and the convergence of OT (operational technology) and IT (information technology). Newberry continues, This convergence is inevitable. The more advanced building systems get, the more they will fall under the responsibility of the CIOs and IT Directors. KMC Commander provides an excellent platform for the two silos to come together, but first, we want attendees to understand and accept that they are in fact coming together. Newberry will be among 3 others on a panel discussing this convergence, of which is certain to be a fascinating conversation.
On top of having their own booth, KMC Controls will also be partnering with and participating in Dells booth. KMC is demoing and discussing their IoT solution KMC Commander. Built on the Dell Edge Gateway, KMC Commander delivers a platform that allows business owners to connect meters, sensors and devices to the gateway and securely transmit that data to the cloud. KMC Commander then delivers standard analytics like histories, trends, alarms and schedules, and with a commitment to open standards, an API is provided to allow the data to be used in a users analytics package of choice. Plus, KMC Commander has built in support for controlling certain devices through the platform, giving great flexibility to end users in a very affordable package.
IoT has the potential to change the way everyone does business, and the building space is the low-hanging fruit of IoT. Better monitor remote facilities, aggregated building portfolio data, or build a strategy for energy management – IoT is playing and will play a significant role, says KMC Controls VP of IoT Business Development, Kelly McEuen. KMC Commander is a platform for companies to build their IoT strategy, and with our partners Intel and Dell, were seeing IoT starting to make waves across most vertical markets.
KMC Controls and Dell have teamed up for numerous events over their 3 year partnership, IBCon being one of them, but as the market changes and IoT becomes a bigger reality, this one is a bit different.
As Jeff Brown, VP, Global IoT and Embedded Sales, at Dell EMC put it, We are all about making IT / OT convergence a lighter lift together with our customers and partners. Smart buildings are an excellent example of that, and with partners like KMC Controls bringing their shared commitment and industry specific expertise to the table, we couldnt be more excited to be a part of this event.
IBCon comes weeks after the announcement of EdgeX Foundry, a Linux Foundation initiative to drive interoperability; a project of which Dell EMC and KMC Controls are both founding members. With this shared commitment to open solutions and unified vision for how IoT will be successful, the two companies are excited about their future collaboration.
Newberry conclude, When it comes to IoT, no one company can or will be all things to all people. IoTs success will be dictated by the strength of solutions providers to partner, coordinate and collaborate. Our domain expertise combined with Intel and Dells is a powerful match, and were excited to share what were seeing with the IBCon crowd.
